Our next project is a stylized 3D narrative adventure game, being co-developed by Night School Studio (Oxenfree, Afterparty).
Job Details:
  • Full-Time in office.
  • Start date in March-April.

Art Director Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates with Night School to define, develop, direct, and communicate overall art vision.
  • Directs character and environment art develop both internally and by third party contractors at Well Told.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Art Team and Night School to support effective and consistent communication.
  • Collaborates with Tech Art, Design, Engineering and Art Teams to make recommendations and decisions regarding overall art vision.
  • Assists in evaluating, hiring, and managing external contractors.
  • Works with Development Team to make sure art priorities are effectively defined and processes meet both artistic and scheduling goals.
Currently looking for individuals with the following background:
  • Does not need prior Art Director or Senior experience.
  • Great eye for overall visual style and composition.
  • Shipped at least 1 video game in a production art role, (ideally in an animation or concept art role).
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Experience with 3D art in some capacity, (concept artist on 3D games would count).
  • Has worked with an art director on a previous project.
  • Has worked with an external team or contractor in some capacity in the past.

Job Details:

Mid/Jr. Digital Artist Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with our art director to create 2D art concepts and assets in style with our vision. (Graphic, Mobile-Friendly).
  • Creates and concepts character and environment pieces for our CG department.
  • Digitally paint textures, sky-boxes, and other game assets for CG characters and environments.
  • Flexibility to adapt and implement feedback from an art director.
Currently looking for individuals with the following background:
  • Great eye for appeal, character, environment, and/or prop concept design.
  • Great eye for lighting, value, and color.
  • Good foundation of visual principles including form, shape, composition, design and how they relate to game development specifically.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Ideally worked on 1 video game in a production art role, (preferably animation or concept art).
  • Experience with 3D art in some capacity, (concept artist on 3D games would count).
  • Wizardly skills with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, (or similar software).

3D Character Artist Responsibilities:
  • Working with our artists to help bring characters to life while making them work for the game design.
  • Creating clean, mobile-friendly, low-poly game models.
  • Re-topology for animation and UV unwrapping.
  • Flexibility to adapt and implement feedback from an art director.
Currently looking for individuals with the following background:
  • Great eye for appeal in characters.
  • Great eye for lighting, value, and color.
  • Excellent understanding of human anatomy.
  • Ability to model characters in a range of styles, while knowing how to push anatomical shapes and proportions.
  • Good foundation of visual principles including form, shape, design and how they relate to game development specifically.
  • Worked on 1 video game in a production art role.
  • Experience with any traditional modeling package (Max, Maya, Blender, Modo, etc).
  • Portfolio showcases anatomy and a range of stylized characters. (Sketchfab or marmoset 360 presentation preferred).
  • Models with clean deformation in character joints.

  • Creating character/object animation game cycles and one-offs.
  • Collaborate with animation director to achieve strong character performances.
  • Implementing revisions effectively from our animation director.
  • Export and test animations in engine.
  • Attend and participate in dailies.
  • Assist in readying animations for game-play.
Currently looking for individuals with the following background:
  • Proficient in Autodesk Maya.
  • Experienced with Unity.
  • Good eye for well posed, balanced, and expressive character key frames.
  • Excellent sense of timing, nailing comedic or tragic appeal in a character’s performance.
  • Good foundation in body mechanics.
  • Interest in other parts of the character pipeline.
  • Prior experience working on a game or animated film.

Producer Responsibilities:
  • Identify, Evaluate, and Communicate project risks during production.
  • Create, Track and Maintain comprehensive project schedules and milestones.
  • Manage Agile/Scrum workflow in Jira.
  • Constantly update and maintain project documentation and Confluence wikis.
  • Coordinate resolution of conflicts and delays within the development cycle.
  • Effectively coordinate, generate, and maintain tasks within Jira for different development disciplines and support departments.
  • Manage communication, documentation, and deliveries with external partners.
  • Communicate project status and requirements to company leadership, department leads, and general staff.
  • Assist in the identifying of company hiring needs and the hiring process.
  • Work closely with department leads to build, maintain, and improve the company’s production pipeline and tools.
  • Ensure meetings are properly scheduled, run efficiently, and have accurate notes recorded within Confluence.

Currently looking for individuals with the following background (individuals do not need to meet all of the following):
  • Must have at least 1 shipped video game title as an Associate Producer or greater.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Very organized and responsible, should be an expert at prioritization.
  • Treats others with respect and patience, a joy to work and collaborate with.
  • Great listener and note taker.
  • Self-driven, with an attention to detail.
  • An interest in storytelling/narrative craft, (doesn’t necessarily mean playing narrative focused games).
  • Experience working with small teams, around 10-20 people, (could be on a department level at a larger company).
  • Above average knowledge of Jira, Confluence, and the Google Drive suite.
  • General understanding of production management, Waterfall, and Agile methodology.
  • General understanding of file management/organization and version control software.

  • Unity experience and can get your hands a little dirty.

Technical Designer Responsibilities:
  • Ability to flex between C# programming tasks and design tasks in the Unity Game Engine.
  • Developing additional systems which stack on Night School Studio’s Unity proprietary tool-set: Night Tools, to piece together branching narrative game play.
  • Collaborate with creative lead to develop new game play systems and additional Unity tools for level designers.
  • Act as a technical expert on the topic and ensure the tools, documents, technical support and determination and dissemination of best practices (with the approval of the design TD)
  • Carry out production tasks as a game or level designer and prototype the game-play features during game design
Currently looking for individuals with the following background:
  • Experience with the Unity 3D game engine.
  • Experience creating tools to assist designers.
  • Shipped at least 1 video game in a programming role.
  • Ability to quickly prototype and translate design concepts into efficient code.

Unity Designer Responsibilities:
  • Lead the creation of full game design documentation for assigned projects.
  • Working in the Unity game engine and utilizing Night School Studio’s proprietary tool-set: Night Tools, to piece together branching narrative game-play.
  • Spatial design – gray-boxing areas which the character walks around in and what they interact with.
  • Encounter design – creating fun sequences, enemy, behavior, and obstacle sequencing.
  • Identify and prioritize required feature specifications, set the standard for these specs, and review and sign off on all specifications for junior team members.
  • Manage regular internal testing sessions on projects, both within the team and across the wider studdio, and using this data to influence future design decisions.
  • Work closely with Production, Engineer, Art and Story Leads to make project critical decisions that ensure game quality is maintained without jeopardizing the delivery of game milestones.
Currently looking for individuals with the following background:
  • Experience with the Unity 3D game development pipeline.
  • Shipped at least 1 video game in a game or level design role.
  • Ability to communicate and articulate design concepts for narrative games.

  • Dialogue writing and story development.
